Steve and I went on an epic KZN adventure holiday :) I loved it! Here’s what we did:
*Steve and I left super early in the morning from my place, and headed off to PMB! It was an epic trip, and it went by really quickly, cause I had such good company, and we listened to an awesome mix CD :)
*We stopped in Harrismith for breakfast at Wimpy, which was super yummy, and saw some Llamas (yes! At the Wimpy).
*On the way there, we stopped at Howick falls, which was INCREDIBLE! Wow, definitely a must-see if you’re ever in the area
*We arrived in PMB in the early afternoon and headed off to where we were staying and dropped off our bags. We got to stay at the Victoria Country Club with Steve’s uncle, and it was more awesome than a hotel there! :)
*We then went for coffee with Steve’s dad at Cascades Centre, which was really nice.
*We then dashed off to Steve’s mom’s place and I got to meet the whole family. We chilled there for a while, playing guitar and piano together. Epic fun! We also took a walk around the Uni of KZN’s campus, which, by the way, is SO much more beautiful than Jozi universities :P
*Straight afterwards, Steve, his brother Jono, and I went off to Scottsville mall, where we ate Scooters Pizza (yum!) and then, we met up with the Morcoms (love those guys) and we went bowling! It was epic fun, even though I was terrible and came last by 30 points, haha!
*We got up early and went to this awesome place called Butterflies for Africa, with Steve, Jono and their dad. I was really surprised at how cool this place was – you walk into a giant enclosure full of birds, fish and tons of different butterflies! We saw some amazing things, like some butterflies bigger than our hands, see-through butterflies and even a whole cupboard full of cocoons. It was a really worthwhile experience. There was also a female Electus parrot that charmed Steve :)
*Afterwards, we went to the Midlands Liberty Mall and got some delicious drinks from there, and went for waffles at the Milky Lane
*We headed then to World’s View, where Steve’s dad lives, and took a loooong, lovely walk around there, through a plantation and an old tunnel, which was quite cool! You could see the whole of PMB from the top of World’s View!
*We then went with Jono to his church, NCF, and attended the service there. It kind of reminded me of NCCB, except with more people my age :)
*After church, we went to the Morcoms, and we played games with them! My favourite was playing a game where we stuck pieces of paper with names on each others heads, then we’d have to ask questions to try figure out who the person written on our heads was :P I then fell asleep on their couch (eish :P)
*Steve took me to his old high school, Carter High, and we took a walk around. My guy has his name written on the honours board there :) it was awesome – I got to meet all the teachers Steve always tells me about.
*We went straight after to the Natal museum. It was HUGE, way bigger than any museum in Jozi, and we saw some pretty cool things, but mainly a whole lot of animals. My highlight of it was playing e-soccer with Jono and Steve.
*We then ate some of the best sushi I’ve ever tasted at a place called Saki – it was AWESOME! :) thoroughly enjoyed it, and had a lot of crab and California rolls.
*Jono then got us vouchers for go-karting, so I went go-karting for the first time :) it was great, even though I came last! Definitely something I’d do again.
*We drove to a place called the Autobahn after, and got some awesome ice-cream sundaes :)
*We ate chicken curry at Steve’s mom’s place after, and had a chilled time there. Loved it!
*We got up bright and early and left for Trafalgar in the South Coast, where we stayed with Steve’s aunt in the middle of what looked to me like a tropical jungle :P was amazing!
*On the way there, we drove past the sea, and I had a mini-heart attack, cause it was my first proper time seeing it! I got so excited that Steve parked us at a place called Hibbedene beach, and we took a walk around there. Loved it! It’s incredible how majestic the sea is… pictures just can’t do justice to it!
*After that, we went to Uvongo bird park :) we got attacked by pigeons that wanted food, and they wouldn’t get off us, which was quite funny :P we saw some pretty awesome parrots, and some talking mynahs, which were super funny to watch :)
*We then went on search for a place called “the Shell Museum”, only to be informed later that it had closed down 10 years ago (oops :P), but we found a shell shop and looked at some pretty shells anyways :)
*After that, we arrived at Steve’s aunt, and had a chilled evening there, full of good food and tea :)
*We went early to Oribi Gorge, which had arguably one of the best views I’ve ever seen in my life. Steve sat on the edge of the gorge and almost gave me a heart attack, but then convinced me to sit on the edge with him too, and it was really worthwhile the fright :P it was beautiful, and we had a black eagle swoop down 10m away from our faces! We then went across the bridge over the gorge and watch people bridge jump down it.
*We then ate lunch at the Hotel by the gorge, which was really yummy :)
*After, we decided that we were so close to the Eastern Cape that we might as well drive into it :) so, we did just that, and we stopped then at the Wild Coast Sun :) we rented a paddle boat and went out onto the lagoon there. Steve then took me to the beach! And I swam in the sea for the first time ever – was as happy as a little kid! We also built a sandcastle that looked more like a moon base, hehe!
*After that, we were both pretty exhausted (I think?) and we went home
*We travelled down to Durban and visited Ushaka! The aquarium there is quite honestly one of the most awesome things I’ve ever seen! I saw every sort of shark/stingray/turtle/fish/penguin/dolphin possible (ok, not really, but it felt like it :P) and was totally in my element! We also watched the dolphin show after, which was incredible! They are such clever creatures. We also walked on the beach there which was great!
*After, we went to the Moses Mabhida stadium. It’s super impressive. We hoped to go on the cable car ride there, but it was closed due to wind.
*We then went to Gateway, which was AWESOME! Wish we could move it to Jozi :P haha. We went and climbed the world’s highest indoor rock climb there, which was crazy fun! Steve really enjoyed that, I think :) We also then went and got a massage there (my idea, of course :P haha). After, we got the most delicious supper ever at a place called The Royal Palm! Steve got 20 delicious tiger prawns for R80! It was crazy good – definitely a place to go visit if you want a great meal!
*We then drove back to PMB for the night :)
*We got up early to go to the Drakensburg for a hike with Jono, Steve’s mom, the Morcoms, and Werner. It was great fun, and we got up really high, but Steve, his mom and I had to turn back half way, cause Steve’s mom was finding the hike rough. But it didn’t matter, cause we then sat and had a delicious lunch at the hotel there :)
*After that, we drove to Estcourt to the Bed and Breakfast we were staying at. We had a chilled night in, and sat talking til late at night – it was awesome fun!
*We went quite early and drove around Weenen Game reserve – we saw some giraffe, kudu, and two rhinos! It was awesome!
*We then went to White Mountain Folk Festival and met up with Hannah and Chris, which made my day :D yay! It was FULL of hippies, it was really funny! They even had a “happy shop” :) we saw some incredible artists there, my favourite being Vusi Mahesela! John Ellis and Ard Matthews were also brilliant, but sadly, I was very sleepy and fell asleep on Steve :P haha.
*We had these yummy potato twirls and then spit lamb to eat, which was AWESOME! I love lamb :D
*We spend a lot of time also just talking to Hannah and Chris and it was great to see them again! Definitely two people I wish I could see more!
*We left for Joburg sadly… really wished our holiday had been longer! But then, I got lunch with Steve before he dropped me off home, at least :)
